Double chocolate banana cake is a tasty way to eat fruit and cake. The cake so moist and delicious with 2 layers of chocolate.
Double Chocolate Banana Cake
I have a love/hate relationship with bananas. Bananas are such a sweet fruit that you have to be in the mood for but the window for eating them at the perfect ripeness is a science like picking the right avocado.
When at the store, I grab a bunch of 5-7 bananas for the family. We slowly eat them through the week and by the end of the week I have 2-3 brown bananas and now the kids will not eat them because they are “bad” because of the brown, soft spots.
Now that the weather is warming up, I try not to buy bananas or try and use them within a day or 2 so that I don’t get invaded by swarms of fruit flies. Nothing worse than sitting down to a meal and having little fruit flies around your head and food.

Step by Step Instructions:
How to Make Double Chocolate Banana Cake
First, preheat oven to 350°F and gather all of the ingredients.

Cover a 10″x7″ baking dish with a piece of parchment or grease. you can also use a 9″x9″ baking dish.

Next, put softened butter and sugar in a mixing bowl and beat until creamy.

Next, add 1 egg and the vanilla extract, then mix.

Peel the bananas and beat into the mixture. Then set aside.
Tip: If your bananas are brown and super ripe then you can beat them into the mixture, if you are using yellow bananas then you might have to puree them before mixing into batter.

In a new bowl mix flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt

Slowly introduce the dry bowl into the creamed butter bowl, mix until smooth.

Next, divide the batter equally into 2 bowls.

In one bowl, add cocoa powder and mix until fully incorporated.

Spread the cocoa powder batter across the greased pan or parchment paper.

Spread remaining bowl of batter on top of the cocoa batter.
Tip: you can choose to layer the cake or make swirls in the batter for a different look.

Sprinkle the top with the desired amount of chocolate chips. I used ½ cup.

Bake at 350°F for 27-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Let the cake cool completely before cutting and digging in.

Sounds delicious. I have recently been forbidden from buying bananas because my husband blamed me for what you aptly identify as “eating them at the perfect ripeness is a science” instead of “not knowing how to pick bananas”. And we do end up with over-ripe ones so this is great. Thank you.
Excellent recipe! I have never seen one like this…thank you!
